Edinburgh Printmakers at Grove House Hotel
Part of the brief for our recently completed commercial hospitality project, Grove House Hotel in Edinburgh, was to ensure that the property remained connected to the community and that it should have a ‘neighbourhood’ feel.
Right around the corner from the hotel sits Edinburgh Printmakers. A former rubber factory, the printmakers has become an integral part of the Fountainbridge culture, with their open access print studio enabling established and emerging artists to hone their printmaking skills and exhibit their works in the galleries and shop.
We are really proud to have partnered with the Printmakers in procuring all of of the artwork displayed throughout the hotel and hope they are enjoyed and admired by all those lucky enough to see them.
Here’s a little visual tour of the collection…
The Guest Lounge at Grove House Hotel featuring screen prints ‘Solace 03’ (L) and ‘Solace 04’ (R) by Kim Minuti.
Two works by Katy Dove, ‘Double Life’ (L) and ‘Double You’ (R), sit neatly between the large courtyard windows in the Guest Lounge.
‘Revelry and its Aftermath’ triptych by Turner Prize nominee Pio Abad in the Conference Room.
Wendy McMurdo’s ‘Nature Study (Cormorant)’ and ‘Nature Study (Gannet) II’ bring a wonderful energy to the Entrance Lobby.
Also adorning the Entrance Lobby walls are the aptly named ‘Entrances’ by Shelagh Atkinson and ‘Noon Hum’ by Anupa Gardner (above).
Above from top L-R: ‘National Park’ by Rowan Paton, ‘Sunrise’ by Silke Heuer and ‘Change is a Powerful Thing’ by Aleksandra Kargul; ‘Landscape with Red, Blue and Black’ by Louise Hopkins and ‘Edinburgh Sightlines’ by Cat Outram ~ all on the ground floor.
Above, from top L-R: ‘Fruiting Purple, ‘Fruiting Green’ and ‘Fruiting Purple and Green’ by Carla Smith; ‘Gingko Rust’, Gingko Biloba’ and ‘Gingko Blue’ by Lindsay Hutchinson; ‘1972’ and ‘Swimming Bains Beach’ by Lindsay Hutchinson; Neighbourhood’, ‘Untitled (Steps)’ and ‘Untitled (This Way)’ by Alister Hayes; ‘Swooping Swallows’ and ‘A Gathering of Goldfinches’ by Polly Rose Morris; ‘Busy Otter, Water of Leith (Umber)’, ‘Black Tailed Godwit’ and ‘Busy Otter, Water of Leith (Green)’ by Sheila Chapman. Throughout the 58 bedrooms.
Special thanks go to all of the artists (with some going to extra lengths to produce the quantities required with the time frame), to Alice Griffith from Edinburgh Printmakers for her patience and expertise in procuring the works, to Jamie McAteer and his team at Detail Framing for framing and hanging the works so efficiently and beautifully, and to the hotel owners for embracing the concept and investing in this unique collection.
